They also perform for guest artists each year--past guests have included Bharat Chandra, Anton Dressler, Julia Heinen, Kelly Johnson, Howard Klug, Jean Kopperud, Eric Mandat, Charlie Neidich, David Singer, Robert Spring, Jana Starling, and John Bruce Yeh.

Clarinet studio class and chamber music

The clarinet studio meets each week in studio class to perform for each other and to discuss subjects like

  • clarinet repertoire
  • orchestral excerpts
  • reed adjusting
  • clarinet pedagogy

Guest artists often give masterclasses at this time.

Woodwind chamber music also takes place at this time for part of the semester. Students can, and often do, take part in the chamber music as a separate, full-semester course for credit. These groups rehearse at least once a week and are coached at least once a week by Schwob School of Music faculty. The Wind Ensemble program also programs larger chamber works such as L'Histoire du Soldat and the Gounod Petite Symphonie. Each student will have experienced the best ensemble repertoire, both old and new, before he or she graduates from Columbus State University.
